Game Description

Sudoku is a logic-based number placement puzzle game. The aim is to fill a 9×9 grid with numbers from 1 to 9, with each number appearing once in every row, column and 3×3 box. This tricky constraint is what makes solving Sudoku puzzles both fun and challenging.

How to Play Sudoku Game

Close up of a partially completed sudoku puzzle in a newspaper, with some cells filled in with numbers and other cells circled in pencil. This demonstrates the sudoku solving technique of making note of candidate numbers.

Goal – Fill all empty cells on the grid such that each row, column and 3×3 box contains the numbers 1-9 exactly once.

Entering Numbers – Select an empty cell and enter a number from 1-9 using the number keys. Enter your best guess based on logic.

Making Notes – Make notes in pencil to indicate possible candidates for cells that you are unsure about. This helps narrow down options.

Solving Strategies – Apply logical reasoning techniques such as elimination, hidden pairs and pattern analysis to solve the puzzle.

Checking Your Work – The game will notify you if there are any duplicated numbers in rows, columns or boxes, which helps spot mistakes.

Getting Stuck – If you get stuck, scan rows, columns and boxes carefully to find the next logical move. If needed, use the undo button or start over.

Game Modes

There are various Sudoku game modes, including:

Classical Mode – The most common mode with symmetrical 9×9 puzzles rated by difficulty.

Variants – Puzzles with irregular shapes, larger grids, additional math constraints or colored clues provide extra challenges.

Time Attack – Race to solve puzzles under time pressure before the timer runs out.

Multiplayer – Compete against real opponents to solve the same Sudoku grid. Fastest correct solver wins.

Tips and Tricks Of Sudoku

  • Scan rows, columns and boxes to find cells with fewest possibility combinations
  • When only two numbers are possible in a box, apply hidden pair logic
  • Make notes early even if unsure to eliminate logically impossible candidates
  • Start from cells with fewer possibilities to make logical deductions
